Dorchester county was established in 1897. The county covers 577 square miles in had a population of 112,858 in 2005.
The county seat is St. George, other towns of note include Summerville and North Charleston.
Summerville, also known as "Flowertown" was originally established as a refuge from the heat and malaria along the coast. Today
Summerville is still attracting people with it's extensive gardens, and rich history. Summerville is also home to some of the best schools in the
state, the Dorchester 2 school district.
North Charleston is the third largest municipality in the state and steadily growing. The city is home to the North Charleston Coliseum and
Performing Arts Center, Stingrays hockey team, and endless choices for shopping and dining. The central location offers easy access to the Air
Force Base, Navy Base and just about anywhere in the Lowcounty.
